Need Helping underprivileged students bridge the achievement gap
My classroom is a Scholastic Read 180 and System 44 classroom . My students are working to improve their reading and writing skills and develop an interest in reading. Additional funding would help purchase additional reading materials that are of interest to the students and at their current reading abilities. This gives the students confidence...

My students are the most amazing... they are driven, focused, and work to be successful students and musicians. To help the Elston band, we could use general classroom supplies for all (pencils and single subject notebooks, along with folders), class supplies (markers, colored pencils, highlighters, facial tissues, post-it notes), and technology (...

Our school is situated near the Indiana State Prison. Many families come to Michigan City to be near a loved one who is incarcerated. These children need extra love and care because of difficult financial situations and family dynamics. We are a fine arts magnet school, but we have very little funding. Anything that can be donated is greatly apprec...

Our middle school kids are getting ready to make even more of a difference! (Of course, they don't know that yet...after all, it is still summer break.)
It's been brought to my attention that students no longer seem to know many "common courtesies" that WE were taught by our parents/extended families.
So... I would like to pur...

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this entry. I am a first grade teacher at a Title 1 school in Michigan City, IN. Many of our students do not have the supplies they need every day for classroom use. I began the year with extra supplies and I have run out. It is expensive for me to keep buying these things out-of-pocket. Our corporation does not have much money to spend, but our students are worth it! We are in need of every day supplies such as scissors, g...
I am currently in a building that has limited technology for students and staff. We are very behind in providing technology and software for our students.
We are also in need of science materials, preferably STEM or STEAM supplies for all of our classrooms. We are a K-8 building and have one grade-level teacher per grade. I would love to get s...

I am currently an Intensive Reading and Special Education teacher at Kinloch Park Middle School. I have been teaching at this school for 12 years. The Intensive Reading class consists of students who scored low levels on assessments and demonstrate limited reading skills such as in the areas of comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and phonics. Included in these classes are also students in the Special Education program. These students range from disabilities in cognitive learning disabilities to emotional difficulties. Our school is considered a “Title 1” school, meaning 93% of the school population qualify for free or reduced lunch. Additionally, we have a large population of students in the ESOL program. In other words, the majority of our students have limited skills in the English language. I began incorporating Interactive Notebooks this past school year. It is a great tool for learning whereas students are able to personalize and make meaning of the information presented in class. It also functions as a powerful study tool, a working portfolio, appeals to the multiple intelligences, encourages pride and ownership of student work, reinforces organizational skills, keeps students engaged, and helps with college and career readiness. Using Interactive Notebooks involves plenty of materials such as colored pencils and markers, scissors, scotch tape, glue, pencils, colored paper and/or construction paper, and of course Composition Notebooks. It is very difficult for students to bring in materials to school. Throughout the school year, students bring less and less materials. It comes to a point where I cannot even lend them pencils because I do not have any more. We, as teachers, receive a limited classroom materials stipend in late October. Sometimes it is not enough. Technology materials such as ink can get expensive. Therefore, in order to have a successful school year for 2016-2017, classroom materials are imperative to learning, creativity, and success!
